Sept 9th - 13th / Getting to Know Our New Friends

😊 Getting To Know Our New Friends 😊

Our little friends have definitely felt more comfortable at drop offs. There has been less crying and the children are doing a great job transitioning! We hope you all have had less tears as well.

This week we have been introducing ourselves to each other and making fun self portraits with mixed media. The Quarter Notes have had fun drawing on their people silhouettes and decorating them to look like themselves. We also traced our hands and feet so we can glue them onto our self portraits. Eventually, we will make a board in the classroom so we can admire our artwork and talk about what we created. Be sure to take a look at drop off!

We have been using colorful fruit shaped counters and sorting them into the same color bowls. This activity helps everyone to learn their colors and sort, but also is beneficial for getting conversations flowing, problem solving, and helping everyone to use their manners ("Can I please have the blue bowl?" Or "I have an orange for you!" Or "That banana doesn't belong in that bowl!").

Mirror, mirror on the wall.....
A mirror was a great way for us to look at ourselves and make silly faces! We created a mirror using tin foil, construction paper, jewels. and a popsicle stick. The kids had so much fun making the mirrors and couldn't wait for them to dry so they could take them home and show you!

A height chart was created and is on display by the door in the back of our classroom. Everyone took a turn lying down on the circle rug and being measured. Yarn was cut to the same length as each child. We then glued the yarn onto a posterboard so we could see how tall we are.

The Quarter Notes had their very first Mandarin classes! Mrs. Mei taught us how to count. We used toy keys on a keychain to help us count to three. Each time we took a key off of our keychain we counted in Mandarin. We learned how to say hello and goodbye and learned a song to help us remember these new words. An owl finger puppet asked us our name in Mandarin and we each took a turn responding to the owl's question.

Ms. Lisa gave us our very first music classes Tuesday and Thursday morning.  The Quarter Notes really seemed to enjoy the songs she taught us, dancing to the music, and using the drum! We practiced tapping our hands on our knees and keeping the beat. We're really looking forward to our Thanksgiving concert so we can show off everything we are learning!

  ● If your child is in pullups, please bring  more for the upcoming week. Thank you!

              Have a wonderful weekend!

No Moon Festival is complete without mooncakes, traditionally baked or steamed at home but now sold everywhere in a wide range of flavors from savory to sweet. In China, this is a time for joyful family reunions and making offerings to the moon. In Taiwan, some families organize moon-gazing trips or barbecue by moonlight. Children use the rind of the pomelo, a large citrus fruit, to make hats for good luck.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!!
