🍎APPLES 🍏
It's hard to come to grips that summer is over and that fall is upon us, but the crisp air has been reminding us it's here! So this week we have transitioned to our first fall topic...apples!
Cut apples made for a fun science activity. The children were able to observe the star and see the seeds with magnifying glasses. We talked about the different parts of an apple (seeds, flesh, skin, and stem) then colored in worksheets.
We were very excited to be able to taste test red and green apples. After our taste taste, everyone had a chance to vote for their favorite kind. We put our choice of either red, yellow, or green apple stickers on a chart. The chart and other apple activities will be hung up on a bulletin board above our circle area.
This week we tried writing our names! We used markers to connect the dots on a paper apple. This helped us form the letters in our name. We then decorated our apples with crayons and markers. During the week, we had fun stamping with apple and leaf stamps on paper.
Everyone had a lot of fun on Wednesday during our Sports class. We practiced our balancing skills by only walking on foam pieces that formed a path, singing Ring Around the Rosie, and making stairs out of the foam pieces and jumping off of them.
During music on Tuesday and Thursday, we practiced our new Mississippi Stop, Stop skill. We marched to the beat of the drum, and changed direction every time the beat sounded like Mississippi Stop, Stop. Miss Lisa went over triplet words (clapping our hands to pineapple, blueberry, etc.), singing solos (Here I am, Here I am!), pretended to be clocks (legs apart, arms at side and swayed side to side to the beat while singing Hickory, Dickory Dock), acted out Peas Porridge Cold, and used different colored scarfs while singing Baa Baa Black Sheep (or purple sheep, etc.). Miss Lisa showed us the parts of a violin. We sang a special song to help us remember. Below is a handout that Miss Lisa passed out during our parent teacher night. They were also put in the children's cubbies this week.
The children really love our small manipulative fruit. We used them this week for a fun math, color, and sorting game. A board numbered 1 thru 6 had the same number of colored squares in each column. We matched the number of fruit to the colors (Ex: 1 red strawberry, 2 oranges, etc.).
Mrs. Mei taught us the Mandarin words for eyes, nose, and mouth. We wore silly plastic eyes on our fingers and practiced saying eyes, nose, and mouth while singing a song and repeating the words. The Napping Book was a great way for us to learn the word for sleeping and animals like; mouse, cat, dog, and rabbit.
Don't forget to sign up for the parent teacher conferences on November 5th! The sign up sheet is located outside of our classroom next to the daily sign up sheet.
A friendly reminder that the Suzuki preschool will be closed for Yom Kippur on Wednesday, October 9th.
😊 Have a great weekend! 😊
