Numbers, Shapes, and Colors Oct 15 thru 18th

🖐 Numbers, Shapes, and Colors 🖐

This week, we repeated colors and shapes, but added numbers to our curriculum.  The Quarter Notes have been learning number rhymes to help them remember how to recognize and start to form shapes into numbers.

Number Rhymes:

1. Straight line down and then your done and that it is how you make a one.

2. Candy cane and then a shoe and that is how you make a two.

3. Around the tree, around the tree and that is how you make a three.

4. Straight line down, then down some more that is how you make a four.

5. Hat, neck, big belly.

6. Make a curve then a loop, there are no tricks and that is how you make a six.

7. Across the sky, and down from heaven, that's how you make a seven.

8. Make an S and close the gate, that is how you make an eight.

9. Circle and a line and that makes a nine.

10. Straight line down, and around with a grin, that is how we make a ten.

We're just starting out, so no one is expected to be recognizing all numbers and writing them immediately.  This will take time, but will help the children become more confident as the year progresses.  😊

During the week we colored in witches and pumpkins then glued them onto a poster board with a pocket fence. The Quarter Notes put out five fingers and used the pointer finger on the opposite hand to count each finger. We then acted out the fun Halloween song, The Five Little Pumpkins.  🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

To help us practice holding our crayons with a three finger grip, we traced shapes on a worksheet.

We also made fun shape collages with different colored shapes. All of the collages are hung up on the board over our circle area.

Friends practiced their new number knowledge and counted and colored  buttons on a worksheet. As the children picked up different crayons, we asked what color crayons they chose.

The beautiful leaves inspired us to have a treasure hunt. Different colored leaves were hidden around the room. Each child hunted for a leaf then told us what color leaf they found. We then sang a fall song about leaves (below), pretended to rake them and then jump into our leaf pile! There were a lot of giggles!

Mrs. Mei brought in Mr. Potato head and pointed to each piece and said that word in Mandarin.  Each child then was given a Potato Head piece to put on the potato and repeated that word in Mandarin. It was pretty silly! 👃👀 👄 👓  (eyes, ears, mouth, glasses, nose, and hair).

Miss Lisa got us ready for Halloween.  We subtracted ten little ghosts and sang a fun song to go along with the activity. Friends also flew around the room like bats, wiggled like skeletons, and pretended to be monsters to the music. We were able to use shakers and play a fun fall song on the glockenspiel!

Our class pictures were taken this morning. We cannot wait to see everyone's adorable photos!

              Have a great weekend!
