Happy Thanksgiving! Nov. 18th - Nov. 22nd

              🦃 HAPPY THANKSGIVING! 🦃

Turkeys, and birthdays, and Officer Brown, Oh, my! What an exciting week we had! Not only did we celebrate James' third birthday with singing and a special snack, but we had a visit from Jayden's (Whole Note) father, Officer Matt Brown. Officer Brown is a policeman in Cambridge.  The kids gathered in room 112 of the music school and were taught some important safety tips. The best part of the visit was sitting on his motorcycle! Everyone loved it. Thank you, Officer Brown.

A large math turkey appeared on one of our tables. A student affectionately named it "Emily". Emily's feathers were numbered one through twenty. One or several children could count the turkey's plumage then match numbered cards on the feathers.

Another turkey (it must be a relative of Emily's) helped us to learn letter recognition.  A letter from the word, THANKSGIVING was printed on each feather. We explained that this was a word and each letter made a sound to make up the word. The children were called up individually to put their hand in a box and pull out a letter, then match that letter to the ones on the feathers. We were very impressed that a lot of our friends recognized so many letters and made matches themselves!

Magnetic letters and pictures were set out so the children could find the first letter of the their names or try to guess the first letter of one of the pictures. This was a teacher directed activity.

Mrs. Mei read us the book, Duck and Hippo. It was about a hippopotamus that hosted Thanksgiving and all the different non-traditional foods that his animal friends brought. We learned to say, thank you, pie, apple, and sneeze, along with the characters names. We reviewed family members and previously learned vocabulary words. Mrs. Mei showed us an entertaining video about traditional food and activities we do on Thanksgiving. . Everyone also learned how to sing Happy Birthday so we could sing to James in Mandarin!

Miss Becca played us her violin and we reviewed our feet positions, bowing for four seconds, and the different parts of the violin.

Miss Lisa has been busy teaching each class their concert music. The kids have been enjoying singing and rehearsing for you! Everyone has put a lot of work and preparation into their music and costumes. We can't wait to share what we've been learning with you on Wednesday.

The Quarter Notes made special placemats for our feast. We asked the children what they were thankful or happy for and wrote their answers on the placemats. The placemats are laminated so you can have them as a keepsake. Some of the answers had us in stitches. We are thankful for their wonderful answers and for making us laugh!

We hope to see you on Wednesday, November 26th at 11:30 at the Windsor Club. Please remember that school will be dismissed at 1:00 that day. 😊

               🍂Have a great weekend!🍂
