MLK DAY and Chinese New Year

πŸ²MLK DAY and Chinese New Year🐲

The Quarter Notes were so excited when the Tumble Bus visited us on Monday. Coach Jen helped the children to use the rope to swing over the "hot lava", balance on the balance beam, swing on the monkey bars, and take turns going down the slide. It was so much fun!

Our crystals grew over the weekend! Friends were able to see the crystals that had formed on the rocks during our circle time. πŸ’Ž

Kavya has come home! The kids were very excited to see her. Welcome back, Kavya! ❤

Red, blue, green, yellow, orange Chinese lanterns were each numbered and laminated so the children could practice number correspondence. This was done by using the same color pom poms as the lantern, and counting the same number of pomp poms that was written on the lantern.

During circle time, we put foam letters on the rug.  Each child was asked to chose a random letter and put it inside of a container. Good job, Quarter Notes!

We've been painting folded paper plates and a Triscuit box red, orange, and yellow.  The pieces became a beautiful dragon. The results are on the bulletin board over circle area. The children have been working in their cutting skills and made lanterns that are hanging in the classroom.πŸ‰

Mrs. Mei read us the book, Bringing In the New Year. It told the story of a family and what they did to prepare for Chinese New Year.  Some of the things they did were; Getting a hair cut, sweeping out the old year by cleaning the house, wearing long dresses or qi pao, having a parade, hanging up lanterns, and making dumplings. We also learned the word 'da' which means big. The Lion Dance was a fun video to watch. The children thought the lion jumping was funny!

Miss Becca had us bow in rest position for four seconds.  We first, we counted to four in Mandarin, then Spanish. Everyone received a bow. Miss Becca showed us the bow, the tip, and the frog. There was a tiny dot on the frog. The children covered the dot completely with their thumb. This helps us learn were our thumb should he on the bow. She counted backwards from ten, and we pretended our bows were rockets and held them straight up and down. Giraffe chopsticks helped us to use the muscles in our hands. Miss Becca asked each child if they wanted a fast or slow beat.  We practiced on by tapping our knees fast or slow. She then played Old MacDonald for us on the violin. 🎻

Miss Lisa had each child make a whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note, and a sixteenth note with foam pieces on a blank sheet of paper.  She then read us the rhyme, Hickory Dickory Dock. We then moved our bodies back and forth like a clock pendulum and each took a turn playing the triangle on the word "one"( The clock struck one (triangle), the mouse ran down....). Miss Lisa sang the Suzuki Rest Position song, the children then came to her individually to he taught where to put their feet ( rest, playing position), make a shelf with our arms, look at a friend in our right, then look at Miss Lisa on our left, lift our chins onto the violin chin rest). 🐁

Monday is Martin Luther King Day. We celebrated early by creating faces on different color paper, and gluing them together with a MLK inspired poem about friendship.

* Please remember that the preschool will be closed on Monday, January 20th to observe MLK DAY. 😊 See you Tuesday!

             πŸ˜Š Have a great weekend! 😊
