❄ Snowflakes ❄
Welcome back! We hope that everyone enjoyed their holidays and the long break. Can you believe that it's 2020? It sounds so futuristic. Even though it's a short week, we've had a lot to talk about. The month and year have been changed on our calendar. A couple of the kids realized the year looked different before we had a chance to explain it in more detail during our circle time.
No one is complaining about the lack of snow and the warmer temperatures we've been enjoying, but we decided to learn about snowflakes and snow. This subject will be continued next week as well so we will have more time to for learning and to make crafts with the class.
Sensory bins were filled with faux snow, cars, trucks, and Handwriting Without Tears blocks. Half Note children will be doing more with the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, but it's nice to get the Quarter Notes more familiar with the linear and curved shapes that are used to write letters. We were able to make a T, C, X, and an O. If a child made a T or a C they were told, "T is for truck!" or "C is for car!" Soon, we will introduce our friends to Mat Man. A man that is made up of the blocks to help the children learn their body parts (helps when drawing figures on paper) and how the shapes fit together (two curves together form a circle or an O). As always, there is a Mat Man song to go along with this activity.
Thank you to Sanya's family for bringing in cupcakes! We're so glad we could celebrate your birthday with you! 🎂 Happy Birthday!
The Quarter Notes made beautiful snowflakes with wooden popsicle sticks that were hot glued together. After the children painted the popsicle sticks white, we then sprinkled salt onto them. Our plan is to hang them from the ceiling and create a winter wonderland.
Because the music school had slightly different hours this week, we only had Mandarin as our elective. We will resume our regular schedule next week.
Mrs. Mei had a wonderful surprise for us. We learned the character for mountain. She read us a book and taught us how to say bigger or taller than (gao or gao gao). The illustrations showed different sized mountains and the children would repeat the words for mountain and bigger on each page. Each child was able to use a calligraphy paintbrush to write the mountain character. Mrs. Mei also wrote her name and her father's name with the brush and ink. It was such a treat!
● Please feel free to drop off any birthday food for your child so we can help celebrate with the class during our snack time. We do have children with allergies, so we kindly ask for all treats be nut free (Some labels say nut free or for school parties). Thank you! 😊
Have a great weekend!
