🎩 Groundhog Day 🎩
The Quarter Notes had a fun week celebrating Groundhog Day. We made crafts, a chart, made educated guesses, and
put a new month on the calendar. The best part of all is that they are predicting an early Spring! 🌷 The teachers are happy!
We celebrated Pawxuntawney Phil's arrival with a groundhog craft made out a papercup, construction paper, popsicle stick, and eye stickers. The results were hilarious and the kids seemed to have fun playing with Phil, too.
Each child was asked if they thought the groundhog would see its shadow. A box was colored in with red crayon if they guessed he would see it, (6 more weeks of winter) or green crayon if he wouldn't (early Spring). We counted how many green or red squares we had, then revealed Phil's prediction of an early Spring. Horray!
●(Six children thought that the groundhog would see his shadow and three children said he wouldn't.) The chart is taped to our classroom door.
Paint dobbers were out at the art table. We used our pointer fingers to count 1 through 5. We then used our dobbers inside of the squares to correspond with them.
We've been practicing counting, and number correspondence on metal trays with magnetic numbers and objects. The Quarter Notes are doing a wonderful job counting and recognizing numbers!
Miss Lisa read us the book, Zin, Zin, A Violin. The kids learned the words, solo, duet, trio, orchestra, etc. They each took a turn pointing to the instruments in the book. The children were asked to identify a flute, violin, trombone, cello, to name a few. Miss Lisa has also been teaching us to keep a rhythm with rhythm sticks. We played a song or recited a poem while we used the sticks.
Mrs. Mei made learning our colors fun in Mandarin using bouncy balls. We matched the balls to our clothing, then put the balls on our head, hand, or shoulders. Mrs. Mei then would say in Mandarin that the ball was on our head, etc.
Miss Becca had the children make bunny bow hands (put their middle and ring fingers on their thumbs. Index and pinky become bunny "ears".). After they made a bunny, they gave him a carrot (violin bow). We also shook hands with a partner while saying, "Sticky, sticky, stop, stop!"
A couple of indoor recess days can be tough! We made the best if our indoor time by having dance parties and free play.
❤ Please remember our Valentine's Day party will be next Friday, February 14th. ❤
😊 Have a great weekend!😊
