🐶 QUARANTINE PUPPIES 🐶
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. Thank you again for all of the lovely cards and gifts.
The week started off strong with a Paw Patrol party (perfectly themed) and a new addition to our class. There are now seven Quarter Notes. 😊
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PENELOPE!
WELCOME, MAX!
I know there are a couple of other January babies. Please feel free to bring in nut free school approved snacks to celebrate!
Like most people, my family tried to adopt a quarantine puppy, but the demand is so high, we have yet to receive a call back. 😂 So I lived vicariously through your children, and pretended to adopt puppies in the classroom.
The class built dog houses out of cardboard blocks and used the toy medical kit to care for the puppies. Everyone enjoyed reading the book, Puppies, puppies, puppies. We talked about the different jobs dogs can do such as: sled dogs, service dogs that help people, and herding dogs. Some children found it funny that dogs can have a "job".
It was fun to glue a dog face together for a craft, and use our new writing skills to write our first initial on the dog's tag. The children copied the words, VET, PET, DOG, AND CAT on plastic sleeves with a dry erase marker. The Quarter Notes had fun "feeding " the dogs some bones, but they were unknowingly counting because the bones were numbered. I asked each child to find a certain number and count the dots on the bones before feeding their dogs.
To keep those fine motor skills strong, we rolled tiny balls of playdough in the palms of our hands, put the "kibble " in the toy bowls, and counted how many balls we rolled. The class really enjoyed this activity during the week. It was cute to see them gently pat and talk to their puppies as they fed them. 🤗
The class chose two colors that they wanted to make an AB pattern with. They colored in dog bones alternating the two colors. We practiced saying everyone's patterns during circle time.
Mandarin: Vocabulary words in the book, Goodnight Moon. Mrs. Mei asked the children questions in Mandarin.
Sports: Rainbow ribbons, farm animals, kicking soccer balls.
Music: Scales, rhythm sticks, and new songs.
😊 Enjoy your weekend! 😊
