🌴 DR. SEUSS 🌴
This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. He would have been 117 this year. 😊 Tuesday, May 2nd was Read Across America day. I hope you were able to share a story (or 2 or 3) with your littles! Sprinkled in with all of the Seuss learning activities are beautiful (mystery) pieces of artwork for the art show. 🔎🔎🔎
I bought some cute Dr. Seuss erasers from the Dollar Store awhile back....they're perfect for this week! We put the books inside of bowls along with "truffula " tree pom poms to make a cake for Dr. Seuss' birthday. The books were also used to create patterns.
The class practiced writing their names on Cat in the Hat hats. Then used the negative space of the white paper and a red crayon to make an alternating red and white pattern. The children copied Seuss vocabulary words (CAT, HAT, FOX, BOX, EGG, and HAM) at the writing table.
The Quarter Notes were asked the age old question: "Do you like green eggs and ham?" I made a chart of their answers. They also cut and pasted green eggs and ham pictures onto paper plates.
It was fun to use the dobbers for truffula tree tops and straws for the trunks. The Lorax would be proud!
There was no shortage of Suess classics to read this week. Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Are You My Mother?, etc.
*Dr. Seuss has been in the news a lot lately. Please note that I carefully choose Seuss titles that contain fun and lighthearted words and imagery. I have never include any books that contain stereotypes or inappropriate content in my curriculum.
One of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes from Horton Hears a Who: " A person's a person no matter how small." ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ It's perfect for preschool.
Mandarin: Learned words for food (hamburger, lettuce, tomato, onion, bun, ketchup, cheese, mayonnaise). Children asked if they like certain foods. They would answer if the food tasted good, was yucky, they didn't know.
Music: Blue Jello game, Rythm sticks and scarves to slow and fast music, and clocks.
Sports: Farm animals, throwing balls at a target, yoga.
😀 Have a great weekend 😀
