PETE THE CAT 3/08-3/12

                            😻 Pete the Cat 😻

The Quarter Notes enjoyed a groovy week of counting buttons and rocking in their school shoes with Pete the Cat. If you're familiar with this series then you already know how cool Pete is and how calm he stays under pressure.  Few things phase this cat. Whether Pete has wet shoes or his buttons keep popping off of his shirt, he just keeps moving along and singing his song! 🎵 🎸

The math table was set up with colorful numbered bowls. The class read the numbers at the bottom of the bowls, and counted buttons (wooden beads) that had popped off of Pete's shirt. This was a teacher directed activity. The children are doing well recognizing numbers and counting aloud.

We colored in a picture of Pete, numbered paper buttons 1-4, then glued them in numerical order on his shirt.

During circle we read as many Pete the Cat books as I could get my hands on. We talked about lessons that Pete's books help us learn. Such as, not worrying about the small stuff (It's all good!), and that everyone has a talent (Don't be sad, don't be blue. There is something everyone can do!).

Pete the Cat and the Pizza Party was a favorite! We read the book, then glued paper pizzas to black construction paper. I then asked the class if they remembered what was the first topping that was put on Pete's pizza. When one person remembered, we glued that new topping onto our artwork. It helped that every topping started with the letter P (Pepperoni, pretzel, pistachio, pickle, popcorn, papaya). P is a fun sounding letter and nothing is funnier to a three year old than alliteration.  😂

The pizza activity helped the children learn sequencing. Sequencing is important for learning patterns, making sense of the world around them (we clean up our toys, then we have snack, then we use the bathroom, then we wash our hands, etc.) and for future reading comprehension.  Plus, it made a groovy new bulletin board for the classroom.  😊

Each child picked a crayon to color Pete's rocking school shoes. I wrote (child's name) loves his/her (color) shoes.  The children told me each letter in their color choice, then traced the letters that I wrote.

*Friendly reminders:  Turn the clocks ahead this weekend.  😴

*Wednesday, March 17th is St. Patrick's Day! Wear GREEN.

Mandarin: Learned word for sweet. Mrs. Mei asked friends if they thought a certain food was sweet. The class would answer sweet or not sweet.  Songs.

Music: Used scarves and egg shakers to fast and slow music. Did some skipping to Irish music.

Sports: Yoga and chickens in the coop.

* Warm weather is finally here. The Quarter Notes have had fun outside on the playground. I'm happy we can go out without snowpants! Because we live in NE I will still need snowpants and boots until the Spring weather is permanent.

All in all, this week was outta sight!!! Dynamite, just right!

                  😊  Have a great weekend! 😊

James got his braces off on Monday, but I'm not allowed to take pictures of his mouth. 😑 Look what you have to look forward to!
We celebrated with BLTs and rootbeer floats for supper. (Yes. He ate two sandwiches.)

Buttons come and buttons go. Do we cry? Goodness, NO!

Oh, no! Another one of my children who smiles without showing their teeth. 😂

The pizza toppings are pretty silly!

It's a party! A party! A pepperoni, pretzel, pistachio, pickle, popcorn, papaya, pizza party! 🍕

I don't have any cats named Pete (yet), so Pickle, Acorn, and Cupid will have to do. ❤❤❤

Shhhh....It's a mystery for the art show!

We're rockin' at the library!
