🐦🌼 BIRDS and GARDENING 🌼🐦
Our little rocking robins made their own bird nests using Easter grass, plastic eggs and classroom bowls. We watched a video on birds weaving a nest using grass (Weaver birds) and birds hatching from their eggs. The video was not only educational, but provided a foundation for the activities throughout the week.
The Quarter Notes pretended to be mama birds making a nest. I had laminated brown construction paper and punched holes around the circle using a hole puncher. The class chose different colors of yarn with coated shoelace strings on each end (are they called aeylets?). This was a teacher directed activity, but some children really caught on to the over/under technique pretty quickly! This activity is great for hand/eye coordination as well as fine motor skills. When the class finished lacing their nests, we used blue circular stickers for the eggs. The finished product looked so great that I hung them up on the classroom window.
Thank you to Diana's family for donating a couple of jade plants! The Quarter Notes have really enjoyed planting the past couple of weeks. We used beautiful terracotta yogurt containers as our pots.
We're seeing new growth on our pollinator seed project. A few friends haven't seen any sprouts yet, but I keep telling them it will happen soon (I hope!). It's hard to be patient, especially when peers are seeing progress. If for some reason these few kids don't see sprouts, I will thin out the successful plants and cheat. Shhh.....don't tell on me! 😂
Pipe cleaner bird feet dipped in paint made cute little bird tracks on our paper.
Sequencing using pictures of birds building a nest, eggs in a nest, baby birds hatched in a nest.
The class created birds using googly eyes, feathers and glue at the art table.
It's been a very relaxing music week. The class has loved listening to Vivaldi's Springtime, and bird songs. 🎵 🐦
We've been practicing writing letters and our names. I'm so proud of the Quarter Notes! They're doing great.
The math table included a little science on Wednesday. The Quarter Notes used large tweezers to pick up gummy worms. We pretended to feed our hungry baby birds their breakfast, then counted how many worms the baby birds ate. Of course, we ate the gummy worms with our morning snack. It was just too tempting for the kids! 😂
Mandarin: New vocabulary words: Bird, butterfly, and months (counting). Moon and banana song.
Music: Used scarves, rythm sticks, or eggs shakers depending on the music.
Sports: Kicking balls into a goal net, Yoga, rainbow ribbons.
😊 I hope you enjoy the weather and have a great weekend! 😊
