🐛🦋 THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR 🦋🐛
I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day and the beautiful weather last weekend. Below is my Mother's Day present from both of my kids ( I also requested some yard work and housework). ❤❤
This week we learned about the life cycle of butterflies. Eric Carle's classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is a great way for the Quarter Notes to learn the different stages that a butterfly goes through before the big metamorphosis happens. We learned the big vocabulary word, metamorphosis and it's meaning during circle time. A moveable life cycle was out to play with all week. It was helpful to keep repeating the stages alone or with a friend so we could remember what would happen next (sequencing).
Different shaped pastas were glued onto a paper plate. The egg stage was a bean, caterpillar stage was rotini, pupa or chrysalis stage were large shells, and the butterfly was a coffee filter. 🍝
Each child had one on one attention when they practiced writing words and numbers on a worksheet. The children could color in the fruit that the hungry caterpillar ate throughout the book. Everyone used different colors for the fruit. We laughed about rainbow fruit or blue oranges. 😂
The Very Hungry Caterpillar puzzles and book were left out on the tables to enjoy. 🐛🍓🟠🍑🍐🍰🌭🥒 There was also a laminated copy of a V.H. Caterpillar, leaf, and pretend food on the rug to help initiate imaginative sociodramatic play.
Because we've previously learned Mandarin words for the fruit in the V.H.C. book, we could use the Mandarin words for strawberry, orange, and apple. Sorry, that's as many fruit names as I can remember in Mandarin!
The Quarter Notes have been practicing singing The Green Grass Grows All Around in school. One child said to me, "Ms. Dressler, How Do You remember all the words?" 😂 Years of practice!
The class did not have Mandarin this Friday....so we went to the park. The kids had a blast. Afterwards, we enjoyed a quick video of butterflies hatching from their cocoons before circle.
