RICKY, THE ROCK/ STEAM 11/15-19

RICKY, THE ROCK THAT COULDN'T ROLL/STEAM

                                     🪨 🪨 🪨

Poor, Ricky!
His friends were all round but he was born flat on one side. The other rocks enjoyed rolling down the grassy knoll. Ricky could only sit and watch. Until one day, Ricky's friend, Stu, decided that they should help Ricky to become round. Using lots of cooperation, and mud, they help make Ricky round. He was finally able to roll!

STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math)
Is an acronym that promotes children thinking analytically and creatively.  The Quarter Notes had fun finding ways to make their own paper mache Ricky the rocks, marshmallow structures, towers and bridges using blocks.  There was a lot of mess, but it was a ton of fun! The children could explore and ask each other questions. Ultimately, they were the problem solvers that were in charge of answering the questions.

Earlier in the day we made "blueprint" plans using blue paper and white crayons. The Quarter Notes worked together to recreate their drawings and make any changes to the ramps. Rolling our Ricky rocks down ramps was a success! 😊

We reused our rainbow water to make a rainbow chain. Folded paper towel ends were put into two colored jars. It was fun to see the color be soaked up and the colors meet in the middle.

Because Thanksgiving is next week, there were some Thanksgiving projects thrown in with the mix. 🦃

               HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MELODY!

                                REMINDERS:

* Next Wednesday, the 24th, is the Quarter Notes' Thanksgiving Feast.

* Please look for a sign up sheet for our Q.N. feast. (Although it will look differently from years past, we expect to still have fun together in our
classrooms.)

*Please remember Suzuki is a nut free school.  Thank you! ❤

* Ms. Lisa will provide you with a fun video of your little turkeys. 😊

* Suzuki is closed Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th.

* MANDARIN: Reviewed family photos and colors. Made a Mr. Potato Head using vocabulary words to
ask for parts.

MUSIC: Practiced Thanksgiving songs (Q.N. are doing great!) and Mississippi Stop, Stop.

SPORTS: Rainbow streamers, freeze game, kicking balls.

               🪨  HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! 🪨

     Alison Dressler                         Dana Mathews

Ms. Dressler's son, James, bought his first car last weekend! He saved up for a year and half and now can drive his sister, April to the mall. 😂

Ms. Dressler's cat, Cupid liked the Thanksgiving turkey costumes. He thought they were a comfy place to take a nap!

Cupid was curious about the Q.N. Classroom supplies.

We've reused these rainbow jars quite a few times now! Folded paper towels soaked up the colored water.

Blueprint materials.

The paper towels started to soak up the colored water slowl. It was fun to guess why and watch the process.

Construction across the street from Suzuki. We talked about the workers using blueprints and teamwork.

If our Ricky was flat on one side, we used clay to make it round.

Weeeee! It worked!

The angle of the board had to be adjusted.  Quarter Notes discovered the block had to be slanted and couldn't be flat on the ground.

Happy Birthday, Melody! 🥰
Thank you for the cupcakes and teacher donuts!
