HANUKKAH 11/29-12/03

                             🕎 HANNUKAH 🕎

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families! The Quarter Notes started off the week gluing Menorahs onto construction paper. The paper towel rainbow chains from a previous week were dried to make candles. They are beautiful tye dye colors, and look great on the Menorahs. While we were assembling our artwork, we talked about the shamash, or helper candle, that lights all the other candles. The candle flames were glued onto the candles every day for eight days (will continue gluing until Monday, December 6th).

There was lots of fun Hannukah music playing during our snacktimes. We tried playing the dreidel game and read some Hannukah books.

The class loved reading the book and singing the song, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. We took turns putting the different animals and insects into the old lady's tummy. It was fun to do, but was really a lesson in sequencing so they could remember the order that she ate everything. She sure was hungry! 🪰

There was a surprise fire drill on Tuesday.  The Quarter Notes did a wonderful job! We were the first classroom outside (All classrooms waited by the big tree across from Barry's Deli). We talked a bit about keeping our shoes on all day (so we can leave quickly), and having our listening ears on incase we ever had a real emergency situation. The drill happened during our lunchtime so we had to leave everything on the table, line up calmly, and make our way outside quickly.

We've been singing the Handwriting Without Tears song, Where Do We Start Our Letters? (Answer: At the top!)  The HWT number and letter cards have an arrow at the top. Each child practiced following the arrows with their fingers to form the letters or numbers. We'll be practicing starting to write the first letter of our names more after the winter break. 😊 ✏

* All of the HWT music is on YouTube.

It was fun to squish Hanukkah playdough and make candles on a laminated Menorah.  The Quarter Notes counted the candles and learned about the helper candle, or the shamash. There was a small Menorah on the table that we added a candle to each day.

✡ MANDARIN: Singing songs, reading a book and naming the colors on the monster.
