ICE/REVERSIBLE CHANGE 12/6-10

                 🧊 ICE/REVERSIBLE CHANGE 🧊

Ice, ice, baby! Last week, the Quarter Notes found ice outside by the playground slide. Because the children had such an interest in it, we made some quick emergent curriculum to satisfy their curiosity.

* 3 to 4 Tablespoons of Borax (we used 6 to 7).

* 1 cup water (we used 2 cups).

* Stir water until mixed.

*  Let sit until crystals form (overnight).

*Dry snowflakes on a paper towel.

       ❄ THE BORAX CRYSTAL SNOWFLAKES ❄

We learned the big vocabulary word, reversible change. It's a pretty easy concept for the children to pick up on. We froze the water, let it melt, then froze it again! Paint water was frozen in Dixie cups with popsicle stick handles. We wondered how long it would take for the water to freeze and the ice to melt. A chart was made to record everyone's answers. Olaf from Frozen helped us out too. ☃️ The frozen paint was ready to use on Wednesday.

Water, alphabet magnets, and toys were frozen over the weekend so we could use the Tool Bench tools to bang, crack, and saw the ice. First, we  recognized the letters, then made the connection that they started with the first letter of the toys. (F=frog, etc.).

The book, Ten Sparkly Snowflakes, was read during circle time. We use our fingers to count down from ten to one.

The Adventure Bus came on Wednesday morning.  The class had fun balancing, swinging, and going down a slide. 🚌 It was great for gross motor skills.

We use number rhymes to help us remember how to write numbers. But everyone is just learning, so starting to write purposeful markings works too! 😊
