LET IT SNOW! 12/13-17

                  ❄ LET IT SNOW!/Christmas ❄

Probably not the best week to talk about snow with such mild temperatures, but the Quarter Notes were very interested in the topic, so here we go! ⛄

Of course, we read the Ezra Jack Keats classic, The Snowy Day. This book is so relaxing to read and it's fun to talk about last week's curriculum while reading (Peter's snowball melts in his pocket). Afterwards, we created some fun artwork using paint and copies of the Quarter Notes in their snowsuits. The footprints in the snow were made by the children's fingerprints.

Snowball Math and cottonballs were out on the tables. A teacher was sitting with the children to help with number correspondence, counting, and number recognition. We gave gentle reminders and were able to assist with counting skills.

On Tuesday, the Quarter Notes used pipettes to make Insta Snow grow! The Insta Snow is a polymer (sodium polyacralate).  It's basically the material inside of a diaper that makes it absorb liquid.  When you mix the solid (Insta Snow) and the liquid (water) together the solid begins to grow because it's pulling the water into its structure. The molecules of the Insta Snow absorb about 100 times its mass. The class loved watching the powder expand and playing with the polar bears. Using a pipette was also a great fine motor skills activity.

We made Charlie Brown trees on Wednesday.  The class loved this project and kept talking about the trees every time they went to their cubbies (they were placed on top of the cubbies for safe keeping).

Christmas Light Patterns were out on the math table. The children recognized the different colors, velcroed the lights to their matches, then spoke the patterns out loud (green, red = AB pattern/ blue, yellow, red = ABC pattern).

Whiteboard markers were used to practice handwriting skills on laminated sheets (Words: tree, Santa, snow, and star.)

There was another surprise fire drill on Thursday at noontime. The Quarter Notes are getting pretty good at dropping everything (they were cutting and coloring before lunch), lining up quickly, and walking to the big tree. 🌳

We read Angelina Ballerina during circle.  The children were so excited to see the Nutcracker/ ballerina illustrations!  What else could we do but have the class watch the actual dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Everyone loved the dancing and listening to Tchaikovsky. 🎶

The stockings were hung on the window with care.....

Look at these beautiful stockings! They are very festive and VERY glittery! 🌟

As grumpy as she was the next morning, April made four goals during her Field Hockey game the next morning.  🏑 (And she definitely was grumpy.)

Sprinkling either rainbow, silver, or blue glitter onto the stockings.

Whoa! That's a lot of glitter, Michael! 😱 🤣
