Alphabet Soup

                     🥣 Alphabet Soup 🥣

This week we concentrated on getting the children familiar with the letters in their names. We made it fun by putting out individual bowls filled with foam letters and their names written on laminated composition paper. This helped the children match the letters of their names and their friends names. The activity was teacher directed, but the children helped each other look through the bowls to find different letters. A few friends brought over stuffed turtles and a dog and asked what letter they started with. This was a great opportunity to teach letter sounds in a relaxed and low key way.

We've introduced the Treasure Box! Our first friend brought in a dump truck and a Monsters Inc. toy. When your child receives the box, kindly bring it back the following day with a small "treasure" from home. We will have a show in tell during our circle time.

The Art table had letter stamps and ink. The Quarter Notes had fun stamping and asking their teachers what letters they made on the paper. We also created our names in glitter. Each child's name was written in marker, traced with a glue stick, then sprinkled with glitter.

Everyone clapped and sang the song BINGO during circle time. The letters B- I -N- G- O were written on separate pieces of paper.  A teacher pointed to each letter as we sang and we clapped when each letter was taken away.

Magnetic letters and illustrations were put out on cookie sheets. The Quarter Notes had fun spelling their names, learning letter sounds, and matching the first letter of an image.

Mrs. Mei read the book, Horns and Toes. It was a silly book about monsters and their body parts. She used the book to review words in Mandarin (eyes, nose, etc.), but also counting (2 eyes, one nose, etc.).

Miss Lisa played a fun note matching game. The Quarter Notes did a wonderful job saying whether the notes matched. We marched to Mississippi Stop Stop, took turns playing on the Glockenspiel, and having the spider climb up the rain stick while the rest of the class sang The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Miss Becca started off violin class with our feet in rest position on our mats. We practiced picking up our violins and holding pretend bows. The children covered a dot on the bows with their thumbs and held the bows straight up and down. Miss Becca played violin for us, too!

The playground has a new addition! Everyone has been enjoying the sandbox.
Thanks, Ms. Perry!
