🧜♀️🐚🐠 COMMOTION IN THE OCEAN 🐠 🐚🧜♀️
The weather has been extremely hot lately, so I wanted to take the Quarter Notes to the beach. 🏖 OK, I brought them to the playground sandbox, but there were shovels and buckets, so it was just as fun and no one got wet.
The class started the week off making a mixed media collage using xerox copies, crayons, and glitter. 🐠🐟🐡🦈 We also made an angel fish craft with cute construction paper cut outs and a googly eye.
Fish and ocean puzzles were out on the tables during the week. The Quarter Notes love doing puzzles and are doing well asking for a turn and waiting patiently until a friend is finished. 😊
The class had fun learning about different oceans, sea life, reading Pout, Pout, Fish, and, of course, singing Raffi's hit, Baby Beluga. We watched a video about the Beluga whales at the Mystic Aquarium in CT, and read the book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. There are A LOT of Mandarin vocabulary words that we've learned in this book. I even know a lot of them too! The kids had fun taking turns saying: Red, blue, yellow, moon, mouse, hair, numbers one thru ten, car, bike, eyes, and star, just to name a few.
Yes, mermaids are fictional, but the Quarter Notes and I believe that every ocean SHOULD have some. The class made beautiful mermaids of their own with mixed media. 🧜♀️🧜♂️ I also made a beautiful bulletin board. It will most likely be our last board for the school year, so glitter was involved to make it extra special! 🌟
The math table had pom pom and koosh ball "fish". We chose any combo of magnetic numbers to put on the fishbowl, then counted out the same number of "fish". I challenged the Quarter Notes with some teen numbers. Everyone did a great job!
Mandarin: Springtime song and repeating some of our vocabulary words. Learned new words: park and restaurant. Mrs. Mei shared beautiful pictures of her and her family during a trip to Japan. The pictures prompted the children to say whether or not they were in a park or a restaurant.
Music: Ms. Lisa came back with pictures of her scuba diving trip! Perfect for our ocean week. 💙 We played Tideo with our rhythm sticks, bells, and egg shakers. The screen was split with four Ms. Lisa's playing these three instruments and a drum. We watched for her clues to know when we should play our special parts. Ms. Lisa showed us a real shark tooth during violin! The class was very excited.
Sports: Rainbow ribbons and bikes.
🇺🇲 Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend! 🇺🇲
