Pumpkins October 21st thru 25th

                        🎃 Pumpkins 🎃

Everyone is excited for Halloween  and talking about their costumes. We decided to get into the Halloween spirit early and make construction paper Jack o lanterns and decorate them with Halloween themed stamps. They are hung up on the bulletin board over the art shelf in our classroom.

Science is only fun if you're making a mess!  We opened up a pumpkin and let the children explore the inside, seeds, and fiberuous pulp on their own trays.  Friends were able to use expanding vocabulary words to help describe what they were feeling and observing (slimy, cold, and slippery to name a few). Not everyone loves to feel the gooey inside of a pumpkin, but all in all, we had a great time asking questions and learning the different parts. The next day, we were able to reintroduce the topic and point to the different parts of a pumpkin on a coloring worksheet and glue real pumpkin seeds to our paper!

The Quarter Notes have made wonderful art for their parents! We cannot wait to show you their "handy" work when we're finished! We hope it will make a cherished keepsake for you. 🧡

We read the book, Ten Apples Up on Top. Because of our pumpkin themed week, we created fun 10 PUMPKINS Up On Top! art work. The children glued pictures of themselves to paper, then stamped pumpkin stamps ten times over their heads. The finished product looks like the children are balancing ten pumpkins on top of their heads! The artwork is hanging up behind our classroom door.

The class has loved participating in color scavenger hunts! This week we continued with objects that were orange. When we're through hunting, the group counts all the objects out loud as we place them gently  into a basket.

Mrs. Mei introduced colors in Mandarin! We learned red, blue, yellow, green, and orange. Mr. Potato head helped us to remember how to say hair, nose, mouth,  eyes, and glasses. It's so silly! Mrs. Mei made beautiful flowers on the whiteboard with different color markers. Each child was called up and pointed to a flower the same color as their outfit. We found red items around the room ( a backpack,  bookmark,  and the fire alarm).
The second time we met was a lot of fun! We each had a turn to roll a dice, count the dots in Mandarin, then pull a red, yellow, or green popsicle stick out of a tissue box. Whatever color stick was chosen was the paint color we used to make a fingerprint leaf on a tree! A giant minion helped us go over Mandarian words for body parts and clothing.

Miss Becca had us practice standing in rest position, holding our violins in rest position, bowing, play position,  holding our violins, then returning our feet to rest position,  and bowing again for our applause. After paying attention for so long, we were able to dance to Miss Becca playing Pop Goes the Weasel.

Miss Lisa put on fun Halloween music. We pretended to be monsters, bats, spiders, and creeping cats. Our movements depended on how fast or slow the music was playing.  Everyone received a flashlight and lay on their backs turning the lights on and off. Friends then brought their flashlights under a parachute while we told a spooky story! (Don't worry, it was silly and kid friendly!)

Happy Birthday to Evan! Thank you to his family for bringing in a delicious fruit tarte. The kids really enjoyed celebrating Evan's special day.🎂

Have a wonderful weekend! We have a fun Halloween week and parade next week. We can't wait!
